Most common spore found in the air around the world. Found on dead & dying plant litter & soil.

Commonly found on wood & wall boards. Grows on window sills, textiles, & foods.

Type 1: hay fever & asthma
Type 3: hypersensitivity pneumonitis
Skin reactions: keratitis (bumps on backs of arms) & skin lesions

Ganoderma

Commonly found everywhere growing on hardwood trees

Ascospores

Common everywhere. Makes up the majority of airspora outside. Can reach high numbers during spring & summer. Can also increase in numbers during & after rainfall

Very few of this type of spore grow inside. Notable exceptions are Chaetomium & Ascotricha

Little know allergies

Basidiospores

Commonly found everywhere, especially in late summer & fall; dry rot fungi Serpula & Poria are among this group and can be particularly destructive to buildings

Doesn't normally grow indoors. Can grow on wet lumber, especially in crawlspaces.

Penicillium/Aspergillus

Common everywhere; Found in small amounts in the air outdoors; grows on everything

Moist wall boards, wood, food, leather, etc. Grows on many things indoors as well
